Welcome to SMUD's online interconnection application system!

This website allows SMUD customers and contractors to apply for distributed generation interconnection approval.  If you are a new user to PowerClerk 2, you can register in the window to the right.  Clean Power Research created a YouTube video to help familiarize you with the basics of PowerClerk 2. About the SMUD Solar Initiative as result of the SB1 California Solar Initiative legislation:

The limit of incentive funding for solar PV projects was reached July 2016. SMUD expects to exceed our 125MW 10-year installation goal within the $130M funding limit. Funding for PBI payments for installed projects are reserved and will continue to be distributed during the following 4-5 years.

Incentive Update July 11, 2016 - Installation Stipends:  Production meters will be installed for all DG projects within SMUD territory. The stipend amounts below are designed to offset the purchase and installation cost for the metering cabinet/equipment.  SMUD will install a PV production meter at no cost to customer or contractor.

Net-Energy Metering

Legislation limits net-metering to 5% of the utilities system peak.  SMUD's limit is 150MW.  Current NEM installed capacity is 102MW (June 30, 2016).  Forecast through end of 2016 will be 150.8MW.  Rates and Pricing are in the process of establishing NEMv2.  This will likely take effect Jan. 1, 2018.  Till NEMv2 policy is in place, NEMv1 will continue or as California Legislation dictates.

Note: Campus Billing is a load aggregation solution and not a form of virtual net metering. Customers wishing to interconnect a PV system to a current meter in a Campus Billing arrangement will have that meter disaggregated and the remaining Campus Billing accounts will be evaluated for eligibility per tariff schedule 1-CB.

SMUD Energy Storage

Until the end of the year all storage units participating in SMUD's Energy Storage program are exempt from the additional storage metering requirements.  Click here to access the Energy Storage website.
